Most people who profess a love for jazz music would have no trouble unravelling the simple riddle set by this CD’s title. It speaks instantly of admiration, affection, respect, and sadly, of loss. The American trumpeter Clifford Brown and the English saxophonist/flautist/vibraphonist Tubby twere near-contemporaries, and their early deaths (Clifford at only 25 in 1956, Tubby at 38 in 1973) inevitably placed extra ribbons and wreaths of melancholy around their already-assured positions in the jazz pantheon.
